1 Samuel 9:1-10:27
This Father’s Day, we would like to do a biography of a manly man: King Saul. For those of us who know the Scriptures and the story of Saul, it may seem unexpected to view Saul in any sort of positive light. The later narrative of Saul’s life certainly portrays him as a jealous, power-hungry, selfish, murderous villain; and this is all true! But when we first meet Saul, he is nothing like his later self. In fact, he has all the hallmarks of a great and godly leader, and demonstrates a number of attributes that we would do well to emulate in our own lives.
We will begin today by looking at the positives in the life of Saul, leading to his rise- we see four such characteristics.
