1 Peter 2:4-9 As we examine the form and function of the church, we begin by acknowledging that the church is God’s idea and possession. As such, God himself designed the structure for the authority and responsibility of the church. The people of the church do not have the right of self-designation or definition. Rather, they are called to reflect the purpose and structure which God has revealed in the Bible. Most fundamental to this principle is the reality that Christ himself is the cornerstone and head of the church. The church rests upon the person and teaching of Christ, and follows his directives.
