Mark 2:18-28 The Pharisees’ interaction with Jesus is becoming increasingly antagonistic. Now they contend with him because of the different fasting habits of their disciples. Their implication is, that because Jesus’ disciples do not regularly fast, they are not strict enough to be taken seriously. Jesus counters their statement with three word pictures; and through these word pictures, shows that he has come to institute a new covenant relationship with God. The Pharisees were following the construct of men, which emphasized external conformity. Jesus taught a true internal transformation which allowed men to genuinely fellowship with God.
