1 Corinthians 1:17-31
Just as Paul had smoothly transitioned topics in vs. 13, now he does so again. In our last text, he discussed the ungodly and arrogant mentality of the Corinthians. Now he begins to compare the mentality of the Corinthian Christians to the Corinthian pagans. The problem was that to a significant degree, the mentality of the pagans of Corinth had become the mentality of the Christians of Corinth. In our text, Paul contrasts the thinking of the pagan Greeks with the pagan Jews, and then shows how the thinking of the Christian ought to be different from both.
