Joshua 1:1-9 As we begin a new year, we consider a text that is synonymous with new beginnings. Joshua and the children of Israel were at the brink of the Jordan River, ready to begin the Canaan Conquest after 500 years of slavery and wilderness wandering. Now, as Joshua looks across the river at the promised land, he has some self-doubts. Behind him is comfortable futility; ahead of him is promised victory, but much danger and uncertainty. God himself speaks to Joshua, and explains how he can have a winning mentality in the battle to come.
